Textile: Biobased Xorel Textiles
Manufacturer: Carnegie | Product Homepage
Xorel is a unique material that can be used for a variety of applications. It is equally suited as an applied wallcovering, wrapped panel material, or as an upholstery solution. A variety of high performance backings are also offered depending on its application. Xorel is extremely versatile in a wide range of projects.

Xorel is an interior textile with each pattern containing between 60%-85% plant based materials. This plant-based content is derived from sugar cane production (sugar cane is a rapidly renewable resource). During photosynthesis of the plant, sugar cane production captures and reduces approximately 2.5 tons of carbon dioxide for every ton of the raw material produced. In addition, the textile is solution dyed, requiring no water. The backing for its various applications is also manufactured through a process that doesn't require water. Finally, Carnegie has eliminated all chemicals of concern from Xorel, allowing the material to be responsibly recycled.

Maintenance: Xorel textiles are extremely durable and resistant to tearing, and do not require very much maintenance once they have been applied. Because it is solution dyed, it is difficult to stain, and can be easily wiped down after spills occur. On applications where the X-protect anti-microbial backing is utilized, Xorel can be aggressively cleaned directly on the wall.

Biobased Xorel is Gold certified by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute. Among other requirements, this certification requires that at least 50% of the energy used to create the finished product be derived from solar power, which greatly reduces the depletion of non-renewable energy resources. This certification also requires that the manufacturer take responsibility for water consumption and contaminated water disposal.
Biobased Xorel is also SCS Indoor Advantage Gold certified for Indoor Air Quality, and CHPS (Collaborative for High Performance Schools) certified.
Third Party Certifications can be found below:

“The bio content is third-party certified under OK Biobased by Vincotte, an independent organization verifying bio content under ASTM D6866. Plant based Xorel is rated either Level 3 or 4 (highest), depending on the pattern."
"This independent non-profit examines and certifies that products are derived from renewable raw materials. Tested under ASTM D6866, the exact renewable carbon content of the material is determined by measuring the content of C14 isotope. Products are rated from a 1 star level to 4 star level, depending on the overall percentage of Biobased content. All Biobased Xorel patterns are either Level 3 or 4 rated."
